Fly to Monastir

Monastir is a fair-sized town with several notable sights, but the beach is a bit of a letdown if you expect nothing but the best for your plane ticket. If you’re a package traveler with a fistful of cheap airline tickets, then Monastir is a good find. Skanes, the shorefront area, is a mere seven kilometers to the north of the town, and is considered as Monastir’s zone touristique. The town itself has a quite mundane beach which runs along a dusty, busy road. If you think you’ve secured a good beach hotel room to go with the low airfares you booked for, brace yourself for an unpleasant surprise. On the plus side, the town sits very close to the airport, and is only seven kilometers (two metro stations) from the latter. It’s busy round-the-clock though, so it’s best to purchase cheap airline tickets somewhere else if you’re not willing to wait. A plane ticket might be one of the services offered by the local travel agencies you book with, and since the travel industry here is as competitive as they come, you’ll have no problems in getting low airfares as well. The public transport is efficient though; the Sahel Metro has a junction at the town center, and there are several travel agencies there where you can book for cheap airline tickets. This is a good way to go either north (thirty minutes to Sousse) or south (an hour towards Mahdia). The airport itself is a mere ten minutes from here (two stations), so there is practically no rush for a plane ticket, the long queue at the terminal not considered. The tourist zone is twelve minutes away on taxi commute, or three stations by metrorail. There is a daily train which takes you to the Tunisian capital, but it is recommended that you take a plane which offer low airfares, as the train ride lasts for about three hours.
