Among the trio of cities which the Polish call the Trójmiasto, Gdansk is probably the most beautiful, that is when compared to adjacent Sopot or Gdynia. Booking for air flight to Gdansk, even for the mere purpose of visiting it, is well worth your money since it boasts some of the most magnificent architecture in the Baltic Sea; this is due mostly to its troubled, yet rich political and cultural past. If you compare airfares between Gdansk and the other Polish cities, the rates are pretty much the same (all things considered); but you can get better deals on flights during peak tourist seasons of October to January. The Lech Walesa Airport is a famous destination for airlines which offer very affordable flights. This is located just fourteen kilometers on the west side of Gdansk, and offers connecting air flight routes to major European cities, including Liverpool, Copenhagen, Dublin, Edinburgh, Munich, Stockholm and Oslo. You can also compare airfares for domestic flights to cities like Krakow and Warsaw, and secure the best deal. There’s also a newly-established route to Helsinki since April of last year, so you can bypass the route to Turku if you’re arriving from Asia or from New York. A word of caution to first-time visitors who want to build up on the small fortune they made on cheap flights: avoid exchanging your money at the airport. Your air flight may hit rock-bottom rates, but you may lose your edge with the insane currency exchange rates at the airport. Compare airfares between all of the major and chartered flights all you want, but don’t exchange your dollar unless it is absolutely necessary. You should also keep a guarded stance with the taxis, even those which come from the terminals, as most will try to rip you off as soon as you exit the premises; hold your own against unreasonable fares. Its best to take the transfer buses which arrive at half-hour intervals.
