Former Dutch airline company also offers cheap tickets from Amsterdam, Maastricht-Aachen
The Skopje Airport, also known as the Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, is not only the largest international airport in Macedonia, it is the busiest as well. Travel agencies frequently utilize this airport for its convenience and central location, and the fact that the Skopje Airport has, in efforts to increase its passenger load, introduced cheap airline flights helps quite a lot as well. Skopje is the national capital of Macedonia, making the Skopje Alexander the Great Airport one of utmost importance. As such it is not surprising that it is the hub of MAT Macedonian Airlines. Recently, the airport announced plans to implement an airport development program, designed to take its yearly passenger capacity from approximately 650,000 to 1.5 million passengers, effectively tripling their current numbers. The renovated and improved terminal is set to open this year. It is expected that despite the many extra amenities, travelers will now be able to get the cheapest flight to any number of international destinations. In addition, of course, passengers can fly right into Skopje, which enjoys a brisk and diverse tourist trade. Beautiful architecture, an authentic ancient Roman aqueduct, and several exquisite preserved mosques are among the main attractions, in addition to the fact that Skopje is a physically beautiful and intrinsically friendly city. One of the most widely known and frequently visited tourist attractions is the famed Millennium Cross, which is located right on the peak of the Vondo Mountain. Completed in July of 2007, it is the largest cross in the world. Travel agencies also do a brisk bit of business thanks to the international flights – many of which are comparably cheap airline flights – to such places as Budapest, Vienna, Sarajevo, and Prague. Travelers can also get the cheapest flight to destinations like Zurich, Hamburg, and Istanbul.
