The most well-known landmark in Thessaloniki is the White Tower of Thessaloniki and is the symbol of this city. Other landmarks include remains of Ottoman Thessaloniki, Arch and Tomb of Galerius, the OTE tower with a revolving restaurant and a number of churches. For those who would like to visit historical artefact, there are a long list of museums and a number of archaeological sites that one can visit. It is a multicultural city with Jewish, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian and Greeks making up the majority of the population. Thus, one can expect a blend of all these in Thessaloniki. The Macedonia International Airport is the third in the list of busiest airport in Greece. Currently, it can accommodate up to 4 million passengers per year, and there is a plan to upgrade this airport into a bigger airport which can accommodate more than twice the number of passengers up till now. There are both domestic and international airlines, and the domestic flights are by Olympic Airlines. A large number of companies are directing their flights here, such as Austrian Airlines, British Airways, British Airways and Swiss International Air Lines. Tourists will have to do their own researches in order to get the cheapest airfares available. They will be considering their free time and avoiding peak seasons to save more by getting cheap flight tickets. Apart from these, tourists should keep an eye on the promotions available, such as promotions by the government to promote tourism which is seasonal. Last minute travel providing there are seats available is possible, due to the large amount of flights to Thessaloniki as compared to other smaller places. However, it is always desirable to plan much ahead of time.
