Stansted goes back to World War 2 time, serving as a bomber base. But nowadays is strictly for commercial flights. A lot of the main Low Cost companies operate here, and the passenger traffic grows each year. It grows so much that for quite some time plans have been made to expand airport facilities, but this expansion plans are getting some fight back from the community surrounding the airport stating that they suffer enough with noise pollution as it is. But that´s secondary, from a money perspective the cheapest flights into U.K. are here, add that to the fact that Stansted offers a mega network of transportation and you are up for easy ride into your final destination, being that London or any other part of the country. It´s not a luxurious experience but I’m sure you are willing to trade-off some comfort for a cheap ticket. And if by any chance you lose your connection when you get to Stansted there is a Holiday Inn right a step away from the exit door. On June the 5th it will be 25 years since NASA´s space shuttle enterprise landed on Stansted Airport during an European Tour, so if you are around the airport by that day make sure watch the celebrations. And that´s not the only reason why Stansted should be celebrating, recently it picked up the award for “Mobility Management in Companies” that stands for achievements in encouraging people to use public transports in and out of the Airport. So, there you have, you don´t get glamour or champagne in your cheap tickets but you will be compensated with competence and a green awareness from this secondary airport.
