Inverness Airport (INV) is an international airport situated at Dalcross, northeast of the city of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, United Kingdom. The airport is the main gateway for travelers to the north of Scotland with a wide range of scheduled services throughout the UK and Ireland, and limited charter and freight flights into Europe. 703,408 passengers passed through the airport in 2007. It is owned by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) who own most of the regional airports in mainland Scotland and the outlying islands. Flybe a low airfare airliner is now the largest carrier at Inverness Airport. It operates the thrice-daily London-Gatwick service, inherited from BA Connect, and has just recently based a brand new Embraer 195 at the airport to fly the route, which replaces the ageing BAe 146-300. 2008 will see increased competition at the Airport with Flybe competing with Eastern Airways on 3 of its 4 existing routes from Inverness. A daily service commenced to Birmingham in March. Having flights landing upon in the airport from all major European destinations this airport has one of the biggest airports parking facility for its huge number of passengers and the cheap flight airfares for its services for budget travelers. The low airfare airlines and cheap flights flying into this airport make it the most attractive airport in whole of the region. The airport performs an important function within the Highlands and Islands network, functioning as a hub where flights between the islands and the central belt connect.
