Bucharest Aurel Vlaicu Airport (BBU) also known as Bucharest City Airport is situated near the city of Baneasa in Bucharest, Romania. It is Bucharest’s first airport built in 1965. Though it was later renovated as commercial airport but it received flight since 1909 when French pilots and aviation pioneer Louis Blériot landed his flight near the airport. This airport is termed as one of the oldest operating airports in World. The airport is situated around 8 km north of the city and is easily accessible from the city center. Various private buses from RATB and Airport Express run to and from the airport 24hrs a day. During the year of 2000-2001 the passengers’ influx to this airport was bare minimum of 20 to 30 passengers per month but after the invasion of low cost air flight this airport got maximum number of users in its history and now caters over 7,000,000 passengers and around 8000 flights in one year. The first low cost flight which started its operation in this airport was Blue Air in 2004 and after that numerous other low cost airlines started their services offering cheap airlines tickets and last minute flights to this airport. The airport was shut down in 2007 for modernization and renovation and was later opened with improved facilities and building infrastructure.
