You may have set expectations about Nuremberg prior to traveling, since this city is very much associated with either the Holidays, or the Third Reich rallies and the infamous trials. But there is more to Nuremberg vacations than a glimpse at its imperial history or holiday cheer. The old town of the city follows much on the culture of the rest of Germany – an unlikely fusion of the medieval and the modern. Most of the city, but particularly the old town, is walk friendly, but to get to some parts of it you have either drive or commute to it, reentering at another gate. Even with flight prices getting costlier nowadays, Nuremberg should be included in your European itinerary. The Nuremberg Airport is connected to the city via the U2 underground line, which takes you from here to the city’s center in under twelve minutes. Air Berlin operates many flights from here, and flight prices to and from the city can be reasonable with last-minute deals. Vacations are leisurely due to the ease at which you can navigate the city; the train station is situated very near the Old Town, allowing for a short work, and traveling to nearby cities is efficient via the country’s autobahn networks. As if vacations at Nuremberg isn’t occupying enough with the many sights to see in the city (castles, Expressionist museums, even the Nazi rally grounds), the calendar year is fully-booked with various events. If you are traveling to the city for leisure, be sure to schedule your visit on the months of September and the Holiday Season. The Old Town Festival is the most elaborate folklore event in Germany, and offers an extensive programme which includes food fairs, processions and concerts. Beer lovers won’t pass out on Volksfest as well, as the experience itself offsets the extra dough shelled out for flight prices.
