Besides being the busiest and the largest airport of France, the Charles De Gaulle International Airport is also one of the chief flying points of the world. Also known as the Roissy Airport, it is coded as CDG and LFPG by the International Air Transport Association and the International Civil Aviation Organization respectively and is situated at a distance of 25 kilometers to the northeast of Paris. Its geographical location is at 49°00'46N and 02°33'00E. Extending over 12.5 square miles in area, it has been one of the busiest airports of Europe being the leading one in 2007 in terms of air traffic with 552,721 landings and take offs. The airport has four runways, three of them asphalt surfaced running 4215 meters, 2700 meters and 4200 meters respectively while the concrete one runs for 2700 meters as well. In terms of passengers travelling, the airport ranked second after Heathrow with the passenger count being 59,919, 383. There are three terminals in total in Charles De Gaulle Airport, all of which has distinct functions in the operation of the airport. The Terminal one comprises of a single building and hosts seven satellites for monitoring the arrivals and departures of flights where each satellite is capable of supervising five flights at once. The oldest among all, Terminal one now handles flights from all the airlines besides Air France, which it was primarily designed to do. The Terminal two is in fact an assemblage of a number of terminals and presently consists of six separate halls termed as Terminal 2A, 2B, etc. The third one, Terminal three (previously known as T9) has been built mainly to host the charter and cheap airline flights. It serves the purpose of those looking for making a trip with discount airfares or a cheap ticket.
