The Karup Airport shares space with the Karup Air Base, so it is used jointly between civilians and soldiers in the military. The airport is located approximately ten nautical miles – or twenty kilometres – north and northeast of Herning. The airport itself is quite beautiful. In addition to the sprawling, panoramic scenic views of the Jutland Peninsula spanning out from almost every window, the Karup Airport has its own Sculpture Garden, in addition to a wide, breathtaking array of art, a lot of glass art melded right in with the materials which make up the airport building. The Karup Airport defines itself as a completely modern airport with up to date facilities and technologies. It offers over fifteen departures and arrivals to and from Copenhagen and works in a codeshare program with the Scandinavian Airport System. It services over one hundred thousand passengers per year and its main flight route is one to and from Copenhagen. A great many travel agencies work in conjunction with the Karup Airport. This began in December of 1999, when several travel agencies began offering ski charters through the airport, to ski resorts and facilities in Salzburg, Austria. To day these travel agencies offer weekly departures during the winter season; these charter flights continue until April. The facilities associated with the airport are numerous as well. For example, there are a wealth of taxi and car hire services working with the Karup Airport and a vast array of cheap hotels ranged around the airport – mind that, although cheap hotels which are easily affordable, they are also quite high quality. When it comes to airplane tickets, the Karup Airport tries to be competitive and affordable as well. Furthermore, with all the deals with different travel agencies, there is always the possibility of getting a great deal on airplane tickets.
