The Asturias Principality, situated on the North-East of Spain, has one of the oldest capitals in the area in the city of Oviedo. Oviedo is not only the commercial, but also the administrative and cultural center of the region. The city is not very large, but its airport, which is named Oviedo Airport (OVD), deals with many world-known airline companies. Such large companies as easyJet, Iberia, Austrian Airlines, Clickair, Air Berlin, Air Europa, and SpainAir all serve Oviedo airport and offer cheap airfares to both domestic and international visitors. Oviedo is not only one of the most exciting cities of the world, but it also has a lot of famous sights and great historical monuments, which attract tourists from all over the world not matter the season. Most visitors are advised to visit the small church San Miguel de Lillo, the San Julian de los Prados Basilica, Camara Santa de Oviedo, tbe 9th century fountain La Foncalada and the famous 8th century San Salvador Cathedral. All these important historical sights, situated in Oviedo’s old town center, tend to be busy year round. Another famous sight is the University of Oviedo, with an international campus that receives thousands of foreign exchange students each spring. Starting in August and all the way till the beginning of October, local airline companies offer season ticket discounts, discount airfares and cheap flights both to and from Oviedo, hoping to cash in the influx of new students arriving in the area. The Oviedo Airport (OVD) is never too busy, even during high season, which makes it a comfortable destination for those willing to give up cheap flights but hoping to find more comfort and a calmer arrival. If cheap airfares are a priority, however, you should look into those offered by the major airlines and avoid flying into the city during one of the major festivals, such as The Feast of San Mateo or the traditional Twelve Night parade, when cheap airline flights and discount deals are almost impossible to come by.
