When visiting Moscow, Russia on vacation, there are a number of airfare specials one can find that start or stop at this historic airport. Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) is the oldest airport still in operation in Moscow. It is also one of the most modern. Obtaining cheap flights into the city is as easy as conducting an Internet search on international flights. Once used primarily as a military base, Vnukovo now services international visitors and VIPs from around the world. Of significant historical value to its country, the expansion of and reconstruction of this wonderful gem has been incredible. In 1980, the airport expansion began to serve the needs of international visitors and vacationers for the 22nd Summer Olympic Games. The VIP hall was constructed to meet and greet the many political leaders and important visitors to Moscow. The Russian President still uses it today. While St. Petersburg is considered the imperial crown of Russia, Moscow is her heart. The capital and mother city of the ancient state of Russia, it is evident everywhere in the city that Moscow is learning to come to grips with the conflicting realities of a former Soviet past and the capitalist future of tomorrow. The architecture is world-renowned. The elegant onion domes of Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the lovingly restored magnificence of the Kazan Cathedral and the Sukharev Tower are all worthy of the time one would take to visit them. There is something spectacular for every person, regardless of age, when visiting this newly re-emerging city. With nearly 100 parks, over forty sports complexes, thousands of architectural wonders – such as museums, art gallery’s and theaters, one would need months to see all there is to offer. However, no visit to Moscow would be complete without a stop at Red Square.
